1916 band
1916 is a combination of experienced musicians mostly from a rock background with the
exception of Robbie Byrne (bagpiper) who is from the British Isles. Walter Baldwin and Robbie
had the idea of forming a celtic rock band and was joined by Doug Kirk (bass), and then later
by vocalist and lead guitarist, Richard Cheney It soon became apparent that they had created a
sound quite different from other celtic rock bands. An example is their rendition of Pink FLoyd's
song, Comfortably Numb - the lead guitar piece being performed by Robbie on Uilleann (Irish)
Pipes.  They also perform a combination of fast jigs, and reels but with a modern touch to the
sound.

1916 have performed at gigs around California as well as Pleasanton highland games,
Bakersfield, Sonora, and will also be performing at Sacramento, Fresno, Monteray,
and Ventura Festivals. Also they won a Irvine Grant Foundation award to perform at a series of
gigs compilating at the Fox Theatre in Bakersfield.
